Sophomore Riley Chamberlain defended her title in leading Del Oro to the Girls Division 3 champion at the CIF-Sac-Joaquin Section Finals at Willow Hills in Folsom. Chamberlain covered the 5K course in 18:47.30. Teammate Hannah Wirth, a junior, placed second in 18:47.40 and Del Oro sophomore Emilie Mertz was third in 19:54.30.
Gregori junior Maddie Kackley won the title and Abigail Fletcher and Ava Maier went 2-3 to lead Oak Ridge to the team championship in the Girls Division 1 race the CIF-Sac-Joaquin Section Championships at the 5000-meter Willow Hills Reservoir course in Folsom. Kackley won in 18:27.90. Fletcher and Maier crossed in 18:53.10 and 19:07.80, respectively.
Sophomore Alexandra Klos continued her stellar breakout season, blazing to the CIF-Sac-Joaquin Section Division 2 title, running the 5K Willow Hills Reservoir cours in 17:31.80. Sophomore Cate Joaquin was second in 18:26.40 in leading Sacramento St. Francis to the girls team title.
Merced senior Cole McKain ran 16:22.30 over the 5K Willow Hills Reservoir course to win the Division 3 title at the CIF-Sac-Joaquin Section championship. Jake Slae, a junior at Nevada Union, was second in 16:48.90.
Senior Matt Strangio defended his title and junior teammate Michael Chambers placed second as Jesuit was a runaway champion in Division 1 at the CIF-Sac-Joaquin Section Finals at the 5K Willow Hills Reservoir Course in Folsom. Strangio crossed in 15:25.90, running one of the fastest times in the history of the layout. Chambers finished in 16:11.30.
Seniors Austin Vasquez and Ethan Dodge placed first and fourth, respectively, as Whitney earned the Boys Division 2 title at the CIF-Sac-Joaquin Section Championships. Vasquez won the section title, running the 5000-meter Willow Hills Reservoir Course in 15:51.80. Dodge crossed in 16:29.50. In between were the Vacaville duo of senior Daniel Hernandez (16:04.80) and sophomore Kellen Steplight (16:17.80).
Matt Strangio posted the 4th-fastest time in the history of Willow Hills, but a collision with errant spectators may have cost him a shot at the hallowed course record.
