Quick Striders' Sandi Morris (Greenville) finished third in the pole vault with a vault of 12 feet, 1.5 inches at the USATF World Youth Trials. First and second cleared the same height as Morris. Places were determined by judges decision.
Briana Nelson finished third in the 400-meter dash finals (53.140). Second place Michelle Brown ran 53.132. The USATF World Youth Trials Web site lists Nelson as making the IAAF World Youth Championships team. View the complete roster at this link.
Leanna Morrison (Berkeley) finished fourth in the 400-meter hurdles finals (1:02.22).
Day one recap
Mann rising senior Briana Nelson (Quick Striders) finished with the fastest time in the 400-meter preliminaries Tuesday at the USATF World Youth Trials.
The meet is being held at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, Mich.
Nelson crossed the line in heat three with a time of 53.81 seconds. Michelle Brown was second overall in 54.97 seconds.
Nelson finished with the third fastest 200-meter dash preliminaries time (24.27).
Finals of the 400 are scheduled for tomorrow.
